Disability Program Navigator (DPN) Services

The DPN's Overview:
The Department of Labor (DOL) and the Social Security Administration (SSA) have established the Disability Program Navigator (DPN) initiative to better inform beneficiaries and other individuals with disabilities about the work support programs now available at DOL-funded One-Stop Career Centers. In addition the DPN helps people with disabilities "navigate" through the various challenges of seeking work.

The DPN:
  • Is a Coordinator that develops partnerships on an ongoing basis and collaborates with these partners to increase job placement opportunities for individuals with disabilities by arranging appropriate services
  • Facilitates the transition of youth with disabilities to secure employment and economic self-sufficiency
  • Serves as a Resource who helps people find and avail themselves of programs that may impact their ability to gain, return to, or retain employment. The DPN also serves as a Resource to the workforce investment community.
  • Acts as a Relationship Builder who provides outreach and engages new agencies and organizations to expand employment-related services for individuals with disabilities.
The DPN can:
  • Provide information about employment and training services available through the local One-Stop Career Center
  • Connect you with employers to find the right job for your individual skills
  • Refer you to local support services that help meet your employment goals, such as:
    • Social Security Work Incentives
    • Benefits Planning Assistance
    • Medicaid Buy-In Program
    • Housing Assistance
    • Transportation Options
    • Child Care
    • Work-Site Accommodations
    • Other Initiatives
  • Offer information about protection and advocacy services for individuals with disabilities
